Water vapour is ubiquitous, but mixing it with electronics can be downright dangerous.  It has caused missiles to fail, computers to crash and electronics to malfunction and even catch fire.

The reason is that water vapour can permeate through any electronics enclosures or coating barrier.  Coatings are primarily designed to keep liquid water out, and these can be virtually useless when it comes to water vapour - silicone, cellulose, EVOH or PVOH for example.  And that's where Versaperm's vapour permeability measurement equipment comes in to the story.

Versaperm has designed and introduced a specialist range of equipment to measure the vapour permeability of complete enclosures, components, flat material and multi-layer laminates and coatings.  It is ideal for use in both development and quality control environments. Results are typically accurate in the Parts Per Million (PPM) to Parts Per Billion PPB range and it can measure multiple components, material samples, seals or enclosures at the same time.   Environmental conditions can be controlled including temperature (-80 to over +1000 C), pressure, environment and partial pressure / humidity. Variants of the system can work not only with water vapour but also with any of the vapours commonly present around electronics, including hydrocarbons, solvents, CO2 and gasses used during manufacture.  Once these vapours permeate into an electronics area they condense and can't escape.

The system is easy to use and quickly produces results which are reliable, accurate and repeatable.

Versaperm also offers a laboratory service for companies that only need to test samples on an irregular basis.
